Downing Street,

7th December, 1904.

Dear Mr.Keswick,

I have received your letter of the 5th in- stant with some concern, for I had thought that I was on safe ground in adopting the proposal made to me by the Chairman of the Corporation.

It seems to me that the course now proposed

by you as regards "L" of my scheme destroys the equili- brium of the scheme, and I do not at present see my way to advise its acceptance.

www.

Your suggestion for a further conference makes it unnecessary to explain here what are my dif- ficulties. Will you say what date will suit you and Mr.Macrae? Please let it beas soon as possible I have been away for the last two days, and on my re- turn I found, together with your letter, instructions to invite your earnest attention to the interval that had elapsed since the date of your last letter.

Yours very truly,

(sd.) G.V.FIDDES.
